The Eastleigh Trilogy

In 2002, after 40 years of business the Pirelli site in Eastleigh closed. To commemorate this, we were commissioned to produce a documentary that would form part of a media installation.

There would be then be an evening showing of the documentary, along with other arts performances, all showcasing elements of the Pirelli legacy in Eastleigh.

We began filming images around the factory, as they prepared to close. This footage would be punctuated with interviews of past workers.

The documentary was created using split-screen editing. This suited the style, as it allowed the people's memories to drift in and out of focus with the beautiful factory imagery.

To mark the 65th anniversary of the Spitfire prototype's flight from Eastleigh, we were commissioned by the Heritage Lottery's Young Roots programme, to produce a film on the Spitfire in Eastleigh.

As part of the project we worked with a group of young people, interested in Aviation. This involved field trips to Aviation museums, and interviewing of key Spitfire personnel and historians.

The final part of the trilogy will focus on the railway engineering company 'Alstom' leaving Eastleigh. As Eastleigh was built as a railway town, this will be a huge loss to people with personal links, and will make fascinating viewing.
