We were commissioned by Ashcroft Arts Centre to work with five secondary schools in Fareham and Gosport on a project in Spring and Summer 2011, to help young people discover local history and create original films, with funding from the Heritage Lottery Young Roots Programme.
All five groups carried out research into their local area and then each chose a specific story to look into further. The young people then worked with us and other creative practitioners to create their own interpretation of the stories they had chosen.
The films were screened at Ashcroft Arts Centre in July 2011 as part of the first Ashcroft Heritage Film Festival and the project was celebrated with an Awards Ceremony, where the young people were presented with certificates and certain individuals and groups won awards for their achievements.
