Hyperlapse filming in Glasgow was a great way show this smart city in detail, during the day and at night. The technique is achieved by manually moving the camera a short distance between each time lapse shot and adds movement over much longer distances, creating an impressive and stylised snapshot of the city.
Innovate UK awarded Glasgow £24 million in 2013 to become a Future Cities Demonstrator. They commissioned us to make three films to show how the funding has transformed the city. New technologies such as intelligent lighting, a high-tech data hub and operations centre have made life in the city smarter, safer and more sustainable.
We were involved in the creative process from the start, making key decisions about overall style, contributors involved, locations, script writing and planning. We made extensive use of hyperlapse, timelapse, slo-mo and aerial filming and even used an open top bus for some tracking shots! Graphic overlays were also used to show the impact of funding on the city and highlight key messaging.
The final films were extremely well received, and were shown to the Secretary of State for Scotland during a recent visit. They are also being used by Scottish government to showcase Glasgow as a city of the future.
